The president of a Terre Haute nonprofit focused on redeveloping the Wabash riverfront says the $20 million transformation of the old American Can factory will “absolutely” attract additional investment, Inside Indiana business reports.

Riverscape’s Charlie Williams told the business publication that the 166-unit Riverfront Lofts project is a “home run” for the city and continues 12 years of progress in the area.

Indianapolis-based Core Redevelopment is leading the renovation.

“It’s really refreshing to see cranes on the skyline in downtown Terre Haute, which has to do with increased density for the downtown of Terre Haute and certainly the growth of Indiana State University’s enrollment and popularity,” Williams said.

WIlliams says in the published report that the Riverfront Lofts development represents “the second leg of a three-legged stool,” with the other legs being additional housing projects downtown and other abandoned industrial riverfront property toward the southern part of the city he believes is ripe for redevelopment.

Riverfront Lofts will have 166 units, with construction to be complete in about a year.
