Developers General Hotels Corporation and Boxer Girl LLC broke ground in Jasper Oct. 19 on the $8 million Fairfield Inn and Suites. Actual construction commences within the next two months and the project is slated to be finished by summer of 2018.

The 84-room hotel is replacing the former Jasper Cabinet Company, a local historic structure located near the Patoka River. It is opening as a Marriott franchise under the management of General Hotels Corp.

This is four rooms more than what the developers have previously announced in a press release last April. Their previous statement states that Fairfield Inn and Suites features 80 “spacious and contemporary” guest rooms that appeal to business travellers. Amenities include a 24-hour business center, swimming pool, fitness room and a 24-hour market.

The hotel is part of the River Centre Development which totals to $26 million worth of hotel, housing, commercial and green space. The project has been introduced two years ago by Boxer Girl to the local city council.

“We believe River Centre will be an economic catalyst to your downtown area, and hopefully revitalize and bring even more activities and new businesses to the city of Jasper,”  Boxer Girl owner Jane Hendrickson told the Dubois County Herald.
