Hampton by Hilton, Homewood Suites by Hilton and Sun Development & Management Corp. broke ground on a $40 million hotel at a historic property in downtown Indianapolis.
The project, Hampton Inn by Hilton and Homewood Suites by Hilton Downtown Indianapolis, is being built in the medical district of downtown Indianapolis, near the IUPUI College Campus.
The site will incorporate the existing Historic Bethel AME Church into the new development to preserve its history for the community. The three-story church on West Vermont St. dates to 1869 and was added to the National Register in 1991.
Once construction is complete, the hotels will be comprised of seven stories and a combined total of 197 guest rooms.
The new 106-room hotel will provide 91-suites with fully-equipped kitchens and separate living and sleeping areas.
Construction is expected to be completed in late 2019.
