Construction begins on new shell building in Columbia City

Whitley RC Investments is building a shell building in Rail Connect Business Park located in Whitley County in Columbia City.

The state-of-the-art 98,000-sq.-ft. facility will be expandable to 290,000 sq. ft., according to a statement from the Whitley County Economic Development Corp.

Fort Wayne-based Weigand Construction Co. is leading the construction project. Financial terms of the company’s investment in the facility were not disclosed.

The Whitley County Council approved a 10-year tax abatement at the request of Whitley RC Investments and the Whitley County EDC. The Whitley County Redevelopment Commission also assisted with infrastructure funding for the project to make the project economically feasible.

Construction is expected to be completed in May 2019.
