The former International Paper site would be the home of a new Vigo County Jail, according to a plan recently submitted by the county to the U.S. District Court.
The county owns 65 acres at the spot, between 22 and 24 acres of which would be needed for the jail. Construction for the facility is scheduled to start in July, with completion in February 2021, reports Greensburg Daily News.
The file with the court says the jail would have 484 beds and would cost between $45-$50 million minus financing costs.
Bidding and awarding of construction contracts is slated for May and June next year.
