Construction at the $98 million NTK Precision Axle project in Anderson is continuing as planned as the company request a permit from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), the Herald Bulletin reports.
The project broke ground in June at 7635 S. Layton Rd.
Maeda Corporation has partnered with Shelbyville-based Runnebohm Construction to construct the project.
The NTK Driveshaft subsidiary has requested a Minor Source Operating Permit from IDEM. If the permit is granted, the company may release some volatile organic compounds, but will not be as pollutant as large industry.
These VOCs will be created through the use of rust coating and zinc phosphate coatings the company will use on parts, but will fall well below IDEM standards for emissions, according to a draft submission by NTK, the local publication reported. The company will also take steps to reduce pollution through standard use of filters and VOC destroying process, according to the report.
